Due to the extensive flooding in Thailand, a shortage of hard drives is beginning to appear accross all related markets. For electronic security, this means DVRs and NVRs across all platforms (imbedded, PC based), and servers and PCs used to run these systems, as well as access control. Price increases and backorders in hardware are already being seen in Q4 2011, and are expected to last at least through Q1 2012.

The shortages will likely impact repairs as well. Increased repair turnaround and prices are expected.

Customers in high security environments are urged to consider backup systems. Economical, base model DVRs are available that will provide a “worse case senario” in the event of a hardware failure.
